Round table “Civil society’s functions in solving hybrid conflicts”

As part of the project “Civil society in the conflict resolution process: EU experience for Ukraine”, a round table “Functions of civil society in solving hybrid conflicts” was held at the National University of Ostroh Academy on April 25.

 

Dmytro Shevchuk, Doctor of Philosophical Sciences, Professor, Vice-Rector for Scientific and Pedagogical Work of the National Academy of Sciences noted:

“The topic of the project “Civil society in the process of conflict resolution: EU experience for Ukraine”, which is implemented at the Ostroh Academy within the framework of the Jean Monet program, as well as the round table, is extremely relevant. If Ukraine did not have a developed civil society, we would hardly be able to resist all the challenges, threats, and hybrid aggression that Russia is perpetrating against us.”

Olena Shershnova, the project coordinator, PhD in public administration, senior lecturer of the Department of Journalism and PR Management noted:

“The issues of the round table became particularly acute after February 24, 2022. The event involves broad participation in the discussion of representatives of civil society organizations, state and local self-government bodies, mass media. Our team is sincerely grateful to the European Union for co-financing the project “Civil Society in the Conflict Resolution Process: EU Experience for Ukraine”.

The speakers of the round table were:

  • Mykola Romanov, head of the National Security and Political Science Department of the National Academy of Ostroh Academy, Doctor of Law, senior researcher, professor;
  • Olena Shershnova, project manager, PhD in Public Administration, senior lecturer of the Journalism and PR Management Department of the National Academy of Ostroh Academy;
  • Marek Rembiez, PhD, professor at the Institute of Pedagogy and the Institute of Cultural Sciences of the University of Silesia in Katowice (Poland);
  • Anton Shynkaruk, PhD in Political Sciences, Associate Professor of the Department of Public Management, Administration and Information Activities of the National University of Water Management and Nature Management;
  • Tetiana Sydoruk, head of the International Relations Department, head of the Center for European Studies of the National Academy of Ostroh Academy, doctor of political sciences, professor;
  • Serhiy Shturkhetskyy, PhD in Public Administration, Associate Professor of the Department of Journalism and PR Management of the Ukrainian Academy of Sciences, Chairman of the Independent Media Trade Union of Ukraine.

During the meeting, they talked about the experience of NaUOA in the implementation of the project “Academic Counteraction to Hybrid Threats” (WARN); the project “Civil Society in the Conflict Resolution Process: EU Experience for Ukraine”; ethos and ethical models of a citizen who co-creates social life; crisis communications in public relations: EU experience; civil society support of the EU member states of Ukraine in countering Russian aggression; the problem of the penetration of propaganda into the media and the role of journalism in war.
