Ostroh Academy hosted a roundtable discussion on “EU Civil Society Experience in Conflict Resolution”

On April 30, 2024, the National University of Ostroh Academy successfully hosted a roundtable discussion on “EU Civil Society Experience in Conflict Resolution” organized within the framework of the project “Civil Society in Conflict Resolution: EU Experience for Ukraine” with co-funding from the European Union.

 

The event was held in a mixed format (both in person, in the Academic Council of the New Academic Building meeting room, and remotely via the ZOOM platform). Participants had the opportunity to discuss topical issues of the role of civil society in conflict resolution and the impact of hybrid conflicts on contemporary international relations.

The roundtable program included the following presentations by invited experts and members of the EURoCoRP team:

  • Ph Dr.Martin Vavruš from the University of Zilina (Slovakia) presented a report on right-wing radicalism and right-wing extremism in Slovakia;
  • Natalia Malynovska, Associate Professor at the National University of Ostroh Academy, spoke about the role of the Ukrainian diaspora in helping Ukrainians integrate abroad;
  • Olena Shershnova, Associate Professor at the National University of Ostroh Academy, presented a study on the participation of EU civil society organizations in the prevention of hybrid conflicts;
  • Dmytro Shevchuk, Vice-Rector for Academic Affairs of the National University of Ostroh Academy, emphasized the importance of trust for the formation of a strong civil society;
  • Tetiana Sydoruk, Head of the Department of International Relations of the National University of Ostroh Academy, analyzed the changes in European public opinion regarding support for Ukraine.
  • Sergii Ishchuk, Professor at the National University of Ostroh Academy, presented European standards for realising the right to peaceful assembly as an important tool for overcoming conflicts between the state and civil society.

The event concluded with a closing speech by Dmytro Shevchuk, who summarized the results and emphasized the importance of continuing such initiatives to raise awareness of conflicts and methods of resolving them.
