On June 22-23, the XVI International Scientific Conference “Problems of Cultural Identity in the Contemporary Dialogue of Cultures” was held at the National University of Ostroh Academy as part of the Jean Monnet project “Civil Society in the Process of Conflict Resolution: EU Experience for Ukraine”. The event was held in a mixed format: online and offline.
Olena Shershnova, project coordinator, PhD in Public Administration, Senior Lecturer at the Department of Journalism and PR Management, and Kateryna Yakunina, PhD in History, Senior Lecturer at the Department of Philosophy and Cultural Management of the National University of the Ukrainian Academy of Arts, delivered opening remarks.
“We welcome you to our international conference. We sincerely thank our European partners for the opportunity to hold this event within the framework of the Jean Monnet project “Civil Society in Conflict Resolution: EU Experience for Ukraine,” said Olena Shershnova.
Olena also conveyed greetings from the Rector of the National University of Ostroh Academy, Doctor of Psychology, Professor Ihor Pasichnyk; Vice-Rector for Scientific and Pedagogical Work of the National University of Ostroh Academy, Doctor of Philosophy, Professor Dmytro Shevchuk; Vice-Rector for Educational Work of the National University of Ostroh Academy, Doctor of Psychology, Professor Ruslana Kalamazh, who wished the conference a successful one, good ideas, and great opportunities.
“This conference was initiated by the Department of Cultural Studies of the Ostroh Academy. Today it is the Department of Philosophy and Cultural Management, we are moving forward, but the traditions remain. This year’s conference combines not only the cultural aspect, but also covers the problems of the socio-humanitarian sphere to a greater extent, and takes into account the experience of the European Union. The Russian-Ukrainian war has brought the conference to life. The approaches of the participants to rethinking identities in cultural, international, political, and social aspects are unique and diverse,” said Kateryna Yakunina.
The conference was attended by researchers, teachers, young scientists, students, representatives of professional communities, and civil society.
The main areas of the conference were as follows:
- Identity and civil society.
- Modern and postmodern search for identity: the EU experience.
- Identity of the Alien and “other” identities in Europe.
- The problem of correlation between global and local identities.
- Confrontation of identities in modern society: political, national, cultural, religious, etc.
- Sustainability of identities in the context of hybrid conflicts.
