Can US pressure stop the war?
Trump’s actions to force Ukraine to ‘peace’ are not a necessity, but a choice that can make the world dangerous for freedom and comfortable for predators and tyranny
Trump’s message is clear: he wants to end the war on his own and Russia’s terms, regardless of what it means for Ukrainians. The US president has accepted Russian narratives about the war, prematurely demonstrated a willingness to make unilateral concessions to Moscow (for example, by ruling out a return to Ukraine’s pre-2014 borders and NATO membership), accused Ukraine of starting the war and criticised its president. The United States sided with Russia twice at the UN on 24 February 2025, voting against a resolution condemning the Kremlin’s aggression against Ukraine and drafting and passing a resolution in the Security Council calling for an end to the war without recognising it as Russian aggression.
