Doctor of Science in the field of Philosophy, Professor, Vice-Rector for Research and Teaching of the National University of Ostroh Academy, team member of the EURoCoPR Dmytro Shevchuk published a review of Denis Kiryuhin’s book (Denis Kiryuhin. Discourses of justice in the historical context. K.: Stylos, 2021, 202 p.) in the magazine “Krytyka”.
Denys Kiryuhin’s book implements an ambitious plan: to investigate how humanity’s ideas about justice have changed. The author presents the main discourses of justice from ancient times to the present, and each of them not only expresses an understanding of justice but also reflects a system of social practices, economic and political relations. The change of discourses, accordingly, is connected not only with the rethinking of justice, but also with changes in the political, legal, and economic spheres of this or that society. With this in mind, Kiryuhin sets himself the task of identifying the turning points in the history of changes in the understanding of justice. At the same time, based on the analysis of works devoted to this topic, the author comes to the conclusion that, on the one hand, different concepts of justice cannot be reduced to a common denominator, but at the same time, their multiplicity does not lead to relativism, since it is possible to identify patterns of transformation of ideas about it.
