Whether 2023 will be decisive will depend on the determination of the partners
Almost a year after invading Ukraine, Putin has failed to achieve any of his main goals. He did not “denazify” Ukraine, did not “demilitarize” it, did not stop the expansion of NATO. Instead, thanks to its own experience, impressive Western military and intelligence assistance, and enemy mistakes, the Ukrainian army pushed back the invaders in the north and northeast of the country and by the end of 2022 liberated more than half of the territory previously captured by the occupiers.
